(I like to keep up with posting while we're moving but it has been hard. The whole house is in a turmoil and I'm definitely thinking that this is my last move. I can make this new place permanent. I think! Time will tell.)
I'm going to go out on a limb and say what I think is a once and for all solution to all (or the vast majority) of human unpleasantness. We have to find common ground. We have to find what makes us respect each other and forget and at least tolerate the differences. I used to joke that we needed an aggressive alien invasion for us to band together to defeat the common enemy. I think that would work but is extremely risky because the outcome may not be as predictable as what the movies would have you believe. Did I mention that it most assuredly is not going to happen?
So don't wait for me to tell you how to go about it. I have utter faith in your intelligence to figure out how to have respect for other human beings (and all earth creatures while we're at it) and then slide right into figuring out how to tolerate differences.
I started thinking that I needed to fly an Earth Flag at my new house. I started thinking that if we thought of ourselves as Earthlings instead of sovereign nation states that we might find something in common that would unite us.
Whatever change might take place to make us stop the foolishness - and I believe Big Foolishness exists on all sides, Americans aren't the 100% good guys we'd like to believe we are - is going to take a long time because our dang brains have deep grooves for foolishness. We have deep grooves for beauty, too, so there's hope.
